Is This You?

Stress is different for everyone, what stresses you out, may not affect me at all, and what throws me off centre you may not have a problem with. However, over my years of working with people suffering from stress and anxiety, I have noticed certain patterns in why people decide to seek help with their stress.

See if any of the following scenarios sound familiar:

Everyone admires how you manage to handle so many things with ease. But it's not really that easy is it? You hold yourself to the highest standards and are scared that if you do let go your life will fall apart. But you know that if you don't do something soon, you're gonna crack.

You’re are incredibly successful in your career and seem to have it all. You've worked hard to get you where you are and you take pride in knowing that you've deserved every promotion along the way. But as your responsibilities have increased your sense of calm had decreased. You take work home because there are just not enough hours in the day and you never seem to be able to "switch off"

You're trying to make a major change such as giving up smoking or losing weight, but at the first sign of stress or emotional upset all your motivation goes out the window and you go and buy a packet of cigarettes and start puffing away or you abandon your healthy eating program and head for your favourite comfort food. "If only I wasn't so stressed, then I'd be able quit smoking/lose weight ect"

You've always been able to manage stress but then something happened that threw you into a tailspin. It may have been a death of a loved one, losing all your possessions in a natural disaster, losing your job as a result of the Global Financial Crisis, a heart shattering break up. And ever since then you don't seem to be able to handle things as well.

You are going through a major transition in your life and you don't know if you can cope. While most people think that having a baby, getting married, starting your own business or buying a house are wonderful exciting times, they are also some of the most stressful.

Your doctor has told you that you need to decrease the stress in your life. It's one thing to know that you are stressed but when you're doctor tells you that it's affecting your physical and mental health, it's pretty scary. You're at the point where you know that you need to do something but you don't know where to start.

No matter which of these situations you find yourself in, I can help.

But will it work for you?
Yes, it will. But only if you have the following attributes:

  • You can take responsibility for your actions
  • You are willing to make changes
  • You are willing to get help as well as willing to help yourself
